SECOND MILER - ANGELLO RUTAREMWA

Mission for Spiritual Truth

"I was given it freely. Why not participate in extending the truth for free?"

When Angello Rutaremwa first came into contact with people who had read The Urantia Book, he performed something of a self-appraisal.

The result? He says he found himself to be spiritually malnourished and insufficiently informed about natural science and philosophy.

Already a nurse and health educator, the desire to be of service soon grew even brighter as he dug deeper into the revelation.

He had been privileged to receive the book through friendship, he says. As he read it, it changed his thinking socially, spiritually and psychologically, and his thinking about religion changed too.

“That made me think about extending the truth. I was given it freely, why not participate in extending the truth for free to those who also have the potential to use the information to transform others?”

This was the inspiration behind his early work of spreading the revelation in Western Uganda and for his eventual application for a Second Miler Grant to bolster that work. He was already a member of the Spiritual Family Network, an online community dedicated to spreading the revelation in Africa.

His goals for the grant were crystal clear: he would facilitate at least two major seminars and six meetings in two districts, and distribute at least 30 Urantia books.

Targeting leaders

He called his project “Mission for Spiritual Truth” and it was to target religious and humanitarian leaders and social workers.

“These categories of leadership reach a big number of people who are broken hearted, hopeless, socially affected, and spiritually detached.”

He saw this as an opportunity to empower the leaders with the truth which they could then pass on to the people they helped. He wanted to encourage these leaders to apply the teachings and introduce the book’s lessons in their routine sessions.

“This will attract more people to seek for the truth.”

The project was to run for one year, January to December 2021. Roughly a third of the way through, a second wave of Covid-19 hit. It disrupted his plans for further gatherings following two introductory meetings held in January and February, during which participants received the teachings with joy.

But instead of abandoning the project, he adopted another approach: he hired a motorcycle and visited people in their homes, truly going the second mile to see out the project.

This was costly both in terms of time and money but it was successful in the end. Through Angello’s outreach, 43 people received The Urantia Book

Angello acknowledges the efforts of Soren K. Vestergaard in receiving the books, and of Paul and Monica Kemp of the Spiritual Family Network for introducing him to the revelation.

The Urantia Book Fellowship would like to thank supporters of the Second Miler Grant Program for making possible Angello's project and all the others the program has funded since 2020.
